her plainness to keep her from being popular.  She swims, dances, plays tennis, etc. all very well.  She is ready for anything - came back from a speedboat ride soaked so jumped in for a swim with her clothes on.  The say she teaches or specializes in dancing and she goes to all the dances bare footed.  They say she appeared at a dance at the Homestead in a long evening gown and barefooted.  I admire her for her ability to overcome the handicap of homeliness and be a shining light among the young crowd.

A really quiet day of movie making around this lovely spot, writing, watching the tennis exhibition wherein the Cornwalls, father (65) and son, shellacked Leon and Dominey 6-2, 6-1, swimming and reading.  The Tafts brought Peggy down from camp and it was nice to see her again.  She and Robey both are going to be mighty handsome girls as they mature.  A Mr. Wilcox arrived yesterday and Taft recognized him as an old friend - said he was an ex-lieutenant governor of Connecticutt and a vice-president of International Silver Co.  He knew him all right but it was his brother who was ex-lieut. gov. and this man is sales manager of the "hollowware" division of Int. Silver - a very pleasant chap who reminds me of Col. Quinton in the Ordnance Dept.
