He's what I call a "real guy". He hit me just right and I keep liking him better and better as I know him longer. His wife is very sweet and genuine and attractive too. The two girls, Valerie, 14 and Beverly, 11, are attractive -Beverly in particular is a pert, smart live wire that takes everyone's eye.

The rest of the day was taken up with the usual horseshoes and swimming. And today was the first since we've been here it has rained. We played golf in a drizzle and during swimming it poured- you could hear it coming across the lake. Taft is having Robey take swimming lessons and he has his eye on the waitress who gives them- she's a beautifully set-up youngster who swims and dives magnificently- the Commodore does a lot of kidding about wanting to take lessons but they must be in the moonlight, etc.

We took the sunset sail again tonight- it had cleared and "Harry" the close cropped, bullet headed collegian took us out as usual. Harry really opened up for us tonight taking us into the cove where Benedict Arnold, pursued by the British, hid his boats behind felled trees and escaped temporarily. Harry pointed out the point on Button Bay (so named because the shore is littered with small stones with holes in them) where Rogers and his rangers spent the first night out of Crown Point on their historic trip. Also Harry pointed out the New York State depot for rattlesnake serum so "if you get bitten you'll know where to go." Fortunately the rattlers seemed to be confined to the New York side, where they are said to be prolific. Bab especially is dreadfully afraid of snakes.
