George Wakeley dropped off here unexpectedly en route back to N.Y. from Beech Grove and I spent some time with him including my first ride on a 44 ton Caterpillar - a honey on a little job although Gus Koester is here today to inspect the Milwaukee unit and found much fault with the I.C.C. features. And after Dave Reid saying Ernie Bloss couldn't come to Erie, I get a wire from Neil saying they would be here next Wednesday! A tank session is scheduled here Tuesday with the Army - Cummings and a Mr. Evans - "Carl" says Mark Hanna and Frank Pritchard were very sorry the "General" couldn't come - I suggested maybe we should get the Se'cy. of War, Col. Stimson!

Thorpe finally phoned me on the 75 mm extension after I had just about given up - said the Gov't was agreeable to the $54000 extra money but he doubted if they would get us tool priority, a very important point. So we are at an impasse on that and it looks like the new bid will be hard to make up. A session tomorrow should blow it wide open.

Rog and I won two games of croquet from Bab and Willie this evening, coming from way behind to take the first one - much excitement. Am editing the Basin Harbor movies this evening also.
