The high spots were:

1.) Whitey allowed my ticket was okay and he would get me and Shap together today or tomorrow morning. Guess it will be tomorrow now.

2.) Got a requisition number from McIntyre on 587 75 mm. howitzers, after quite an argument; he wanted to add them by I.S. to the present contract and our shop balked and made me go after the old boy. So that's a 1¾ million job in the bag.

3.) The Sales Training Course boys, Feldman & Hagadorn, picked Keller for the Course from Erie. He was the one I boosted most for that day and it tickled me.

Another day of high spots and low spots with the latter predominating:

1.) This afternoon Whitey left for White Sulphur for the ATA Convention and I had only a moment to see him before he left but that moment was disquieting indeed. He said he had informed Shapter about the change and Shap had immediately gone home. Apparently he had had a terrific set-to with him. "If you're half as bad as he says you are - and me too - we ought to be fired. "I said I'd lay low until Whitey returns and he said by all means - we had a "hornet's nest" on our hands. He said also that the things Shap said about me were so bad he wouldn't even repeat them to me. "This is my job to straighten out,"
