2.) They started the New York Central up this morning and the vibration was cured! Gouldy explained that the explanation for having balanced three times to get finally a good result might lie in careless assembly of the balancing arbor before. They spent the rest of the day getting wired up for load test and had difficulties but minor ones. The overspeed governor kept tripping and they couldn't shut the engine down several times. Then they couldn't get the generator to build up until they found a bull in their test wiring. Tomorrow they should just about clean up everything with any luck.

3.) Finally got an okay from Bill Hearsmann for the boys to go to Frankfort Arsenal tomorrow and that was a relief - now I hope they find what they want down there.

4.) Received ACF's order for 200 spindles instead of 100. At $81.50 each, we get 40% spread and enough over factory cost to wipe out our out-of-pocket deficit on the original job, erasing some of the onus on that disaster.

5.) Got following prize wire from Boston which the telegraph operator was sure was cockeyed:

"Watertown Arsenal Atlas 19400 Porter 21500 Volcan 21900 Davenport B 23797 all 120 days BA Call now recommending to CO purchase within month or Tarzan L and K
Babs and Rog"

I showed it to several people and they all got a laugh. Tom Rinn's comment: "If any son of a bitch sent me a telegram like that I'd think the bastard was crazy!" He doesn't know Roy.
