.) Walking back from Bldg. 60. I cut cross lots over by the new refrigerator warehouse construction project and came to a big excavator idle by a pile of shale and three men standing idly by it. I circled around the excavator and was no sooner by it than I heard a dull boom, turned and saw a column of rock shoot up into the air like a young geyser! They were dynamiting! Tommy Rinn got a laugh out of that too.
.) Ken Wolf and I had a western egg sandwich and a couple of glasses of Budweiser in the Wesleyville hangout for lunch. It was a hot summery day and the beer tasted very good.
.) Miss Livingstone, daughter of Jimmy , started work for us today- very pretty but haven't had a chance to size up her work yet.
.) A letter from A.O. White gave more detail on the tank drive and it turns out to be hydromatic -a combination of fluid flywheel and planetary gear box now on the Oldsmobile and to be made by Oldsmobile. I wrote a note to Horn yesterday calling his attention to the fact they might want to consider a second pilot, Major Crawford having said as much here on July 23rd - but it is a forlorn hope. They say they will give us another fling at it on some heavier tanks to come later- a bone thrown to us as I see it although it may develop into something. It will be interesting to see how the hydromatic works out.
This evening Rog and I nearly finished our model of the Taylor Cub and it is really quite something: He and I are both tickled and enthused over it.
