it in Cash's office Shap came in and must have seen what we were doing - I would like to know what he thought - it certainly must have made him wonder what the hell was going on.

Tonight Rog and I started the Northrup pursuit ship and I cut myself with the razor. It is going to be a real job all right. There was a beautiful display of Northern Lights tonight after a clear, crisp autumn day that made one feel glad to be alive and particularly alive over here in America. England is putting up a terrific fight and we are all hoping for the best for her. It looks like the invasion is just about abandoned for this year at least.

I set out this morning to clean up some odd jobs around the place and went downtown to do some shopping first. Among other things, wanted to install the little gas heater we have carried with us since W. 9th St. days, in Mother's bathroom and had to get some pipe fittings, etc. About 11 AM right on State St. I walk into Whitey Wilson, who, Miss Giblin assured me, would not be back until Monday. I was slightly embarassed and explained to him I was taking my last day of vacation, although I'm pretty sure he didn't care. I wondered if he was sneaking a day off himself but when I got home there was a message from Miss Giblin saying Whitey was back - so I called her and by that time he was in. I said if he wanted me, I'd be glad to come in and he said no, to stay home. So I did. I thought perhpas he would want to settle the Shapter proposition but evidently he's satisfied to let that go until next week. He goes to Sch'dy. Monday night for Sales Committee too so it may drag on thru next week for all I know.
