Ken reported that we were now back to normal with Zeke and later I confirmed it. Last night did some good all right. The day was pretty much wasted by Ken & Bert French putting on a new set of brake shoes that Al Busede should have had done last night. As they had to be over a pit in Bldg. 60 to do it, Zeke was fretting about not getting his engine running on the break-in.

Walter Hedley called today from the Stuyvesant in Buffalo and talked to me in Rudy's absence. He said he was supposed to be with Rudy in Erie and to take any calls for him and notify him so he could call back - also to forward any mail, and tell Rudy he would call him tomorrow. Later a letter came for him from his wife and I forwarded it. So apparently his wife doesn't know he's been fired! And here he is in Buffalo up to his old tricks trying to deceive everybody. I fear Walter is coming to a bad end.

Drove Perk to Northeast for lunch and was surprised to find he didn't know about me and Shap because he inquired about Jack Hause and asked if Jack was going to take Shap's job. I said I understood so. I saw Jack in Washington by the way and he looks like a very agreeable chap - made me think somehow of Phil Reed.

Earl Kearns called me in to help him on some of Shap's stuff in connection with the Control Management Committee work and I declined - told him I was doing nothing until Whitey definitely moves.

Understand "Johnnie" Johnson is in a bad way - has been having some serious heart attacks again lately. And learned to my surprise that St.L's "Miss Johnson" is Johnnie's daughter - I never knew that before and I've dealt with her so much lately. A very nice girl too.
