Passed up golf today to work around the place, wash the car, cut the lawn, etc. Went shopping this morning and Mother went with me- we drove down around the dock and saw a pretty sailing yacht down there maybe a 30 footer- Mother said her father had one he named the "Anita" after her and used to race it in San Francisco Bay. I wish I knew more about him, he must have been a great guy. Mother says if she could only write, she could tell a fascinating story of the past and I believe it for her life up to say 30 must have been unusual and interesting and what she could tell of her father would be fascinating I know. I wish she would write such a tale it would be better than most fiction. I feel it is too bad I know so little about my two grandfathers

This morning I bought a Zippo lighter to give to Zeke Tinkey and left it with Filip over at French's to have the following engraved on it: TO ZEKE T. FROM ZEKE C. I think that Zeke deserves something like that for the way he has worked here on this most discouraging N.Y.C. job.

Rog and I kicked and passed his football in the backyard this afternoon. He is getting to be very ardent about football and it has got him playing again with Boyd Bert, Douglas Graham, Ronald Pearson et al which I am glad of. I have been rather disturbed that Rog only wanted to play with Nicky Greer and said one day to me, "Nicky is the only one I have left." It cut me to the core.

Rog was working on his stamp collection today and said to me, "Do you know why Im working on my German stamps? Because I want to get rid of them."
