at once and tell her to get out of Erie tonight or else. Barbara suggested he tell her and he said he didnt trust himself to go see her- he was going to the football game but tomorrow if she wasnt out of town, there was going to be trouble. Barbara asked him what he was going to do and he intimated there was no limit to what he might do - that he was enraged as he had never been before and when he got mad he was mad and did no fooling. He said he was going to spread "that man's" name all over the front pages. Barbara said he almost raved and he was particularly insistent that she tell Maybelle to leave town tonight or there would be terrible consequences. Barbara suggested that perhaps Maybelle might tell him to get out of town and he replied hed be damned if he would. Barbara finally told him to calm down and tomorrow he'd feel differently. He declared he never would. At last she told him they would have to hang up because she thought someone was listening in on the line.

After hanging up she promptly phoned the banker and told him the story. He tried to make out he thought the newspaper stories were a joke but Ill bet he's worried plenty. He asked if Barbara was going to tell Maybelle and she said no so I believe he indicated he would do it. At any rate, Barbara and Charlie wanted to know if we thought they should go out and see Maybelle and we went. But she wasnt at home. Presumably the banker had come and taken her out. Barbara left a note for Maybelle to call her early in the morning.

The rest of the story is this. Walter has been trying desperately all week to find out where Maybelle is living and finally Rosalind Harris told him. After that it didn't take him long to nail her and yesterday he begged her to take him back and she refused flatly. Walter
