we left Washington, I had a nasty headache caused I suppose by excessive reading last night plus some painting at the office, but after a nice cold luncheon and coffee on the plane, I felt much better.

My luck didnt hold out however. There was no space from N.Y. to Buffalo but one passenger, Vidmer, hadn't shown up so I went out and got on the Flagship in his place. About two minutes before leaving, the stewarders (no jack pot) came and said, "I'm sorry, Mr. Craton, but Mr. Vidmer just showed up." So I had to get off, reclaim my bag from the guts of the ship and march back into the building, passing Mr. Vidmer en route - as I suspected, he was the Richards Vidmer, N.Y. Herald-Tribune sports columnist. I took a taxi for 570 Lexington Ave. after spending fifteen minutes trying to find out how to get credit for the unused portion of my ticket - it was sold on a United credit card by Eastern for use on American and the boys were all tossing it around like a hot potato.

Found Jay Walker at the office fortunately and the result was a pleasant evening. Bert Pero asked me what I thought of "the boy friend (Walter) 'resigning'." That was good I thought. I found out there will be not more tank spindles from ACF because all the new tanks have no spindles - the 200 they added were for 36 more of the old type tanks plus spares.

We went up to New Rochelle and dropped in Schafft's for three Cutty Sarks and a good dinner accompanied by much waiters kidding by Johnnie, who endeavored to get six of them to go roller skating but had no luck. So we drove his new Dodge (1940 model) to the dealer who let us take out a new fluid drive job and play with it. Boy, I've got new car fever but I must fight it off until spring. This tonight was a blow!
