Incidents.

1.) Bill Leggett says James of the Erie told him hed been holding back on him - we had just the thing he needed (44 ton Caterpillar) and he had to find out about it in an ad. Bill will try to get James to Erie soon for inspection of the jobs. I gave Bill a real pep talk on them.

2.) The President of the Erie R.R. was at the next table and apparently in a talkative mood. I heard one of the other men at the table say, "Are you an Erie man?" and the chief nodded vigorously.

3.) At our table was a Mr. Herrick of the Cleveland Trust Co. who had helped get Electro-Motive going in the old days - now hates them and Hamilton in particular - Bill says Herrick would knock Hamilton for a loop if he ever met him. Herrick, when offered a drink during cocktail hour, said blythely, "No. Never use it." At dinner, he jumped up saying, "I've got to get another drink. I'm thirsty." and rushed out to the bar, coming back with a highball. Also he told the old story about the old man who had to be lifted on and off - so he wasn't so pure after all.

4.) Bill Leggett stopped at Electro-Motive on his vacation "as Bill Leggett" not as a "GE man." He had some interesting comments on it:

a.) They refer to their 44 ton locomotive, a two axle, double high speed engine affair, as "The Runt." Bill indicated they didn't think a whole lot of it themselves.

b.) Dilworth said they [[underlined]] and Colonel Green [[/underlined]] felt that electric drive is the only practical way to propel a heavy tank, but they (E-M) will never build anything but locomotive equipment. Inasmuch as
