About a month ago, I bought her a quart of whiskey which she takes a small shot of every day to brace her up and it ran out this week. I asked her this morning if she didn't want me to get her another today and she refused. But this afternoon she ended up with the suggestion that perhaps the whiskey might do her some good. I thought then - "This discussion will end when I agree to go down and get it." - and it did! I don't blame Mother at all. If it helps her, she should use it because a quart in a month isn't much certainly. But if she would only tell me she wants that instead of going through all we did this afternoon, nearly driving me distracted, to arrive at the question - to justify it - it would be so much easier.

This evening, Willie and I and Barbara and Charlie Reed went to see Bing Crosby and Mary Martin in a light musical movie that was most entertaining and I saw and heard why Mary Martin has been the toast of Broadway - "it" and charm she has in abundance - and when she sings, her face, eyes, lips, hands - her whole self in fact - do things to you that rivet your attention on her so it can't stray. No wonder she made "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" world famous. And old Bing, never a favorite of mine, really pleased me considerably too. He looks like Bruce Harris. Mrs. Brumbaugh stayed with "Chickie" - she is spending the winter here and has a little apartment down on 10th St. in the house where Maybelle stayed. That is exactly the sort of set-up Mother has talked about and I wonder if it would work. It appears she will go to Buena Vista for a visit after New Year's but maybe next winter she might want to try it, although I would never suggest it to her.
