although I'm sure it was an unintentional error on Whitey's part. I got Whitey to give a "stay" until next Monday before I take over so I can clean up my regular work. But the whole impression I got from this is that Whitey is afraid of Shap, is trying to favor Shap at my expense - is trying to get me in there to do the dirty work (and it's going to be dirty!) while he smoothes Shap's fur and doesn't actually give me the full authority and title to the job. The more I think about it, the more unfair it seems. Tomorrow I'm going to confront Whitey with our agreement and do considerable persuading for everything in it except the session between Shap and me in his office - I'll concede him that although even that seems rather weasly. I'm surprised, as a matter of fact, that Whitey turned out this way. Maybe I'll see it differently tomorrow but today I was disappointed in him.

2.) Was invited to the monthly Section Head meeting this morning (Shap and I both attended). Cash had asked Whitey earlier if he was going to announce the change at that meeting, which would have been an opportune time to do it, and Whitey said he didn't know - he didn't do it, of course.

3.) Whitey asked me to write to the districts inquiring how many 65 ton 500HP locomotives they thought they could sell, so we could either build some for stock or turn Peters down on his Hannibal job. In my rush today, I inserted in my letter the locomotive could be built with Buda or Cummins L engines. Later found it is improbable we could use the L engine on account of length and weight.
