En route Erie to Boston
Tuesday, Nov. 5, 1940.
Today was more satisfactory than yesterday:

1.) Voted straight Republican ticket en route to office this morning.

2.) Handed Shapter a panel painted from the Canadian G.E. that came in Whitey's mail sans identification. I said good morning to him cheerfully - no response. Not satisfactory, of course, but about all I expected.

3.) Got out the Pennsylvania rail grind 44 ton loco proposition at last.

4.) Participated in a discussion on lowering the hoods on the 5-80 ton 500 HP locos now being designed. Jake disagreed with Cash and me when we decided not to change them. - later yes but not on these five. Jake said the Northeast Oklahoma wouldn't take it as is. I said, "Jake, you can sell anything." Jake replied, "If I could, I wouldn't get any credit for it." So here's a chance to satisfy Jake's longing for recognition - when I take over in there.

5.) Got the target car proposition lined up with Cain and Doc, who will send it to White Thursday.

6.) Found I was okay after all on the Cummins L engine for the 75 ton - a relief!

7.) Lined up to go to Boston tonight on the 1:33 AM so we can go to Reeds and hear election returns.

8.) Got Whitey to agree to issue a notice on my accession to the throne although he was still trying to argue me out of it - I wouldn't be argued. So I saw the draft of it and he told miss Giblin to have 200 copies made - but hold till he gets back - he's going away tonight. I
