.) At Whitey's suggestion, and I fully agreeing, I dropped out of the morning mail reading sessions to devote all my time to my new job. This job lies before me, my great opportunity to really show what I can do running my own little business - all phases of it. This is the stepping stone to a bigger job and I will give it all I've got. And as a secondary accomplishment, I should like sincerely to make Shap like me, to change him. It would be something human to do - and something good to do for him.
.) Still fettered with defense jobs, attended a session in Disco's office this morning on the Goss base ring weldment machining job. Reminded Whitey he should get something lined up to relieve me of it. He agreed.
.) Shorty Miles going to Federal & Marine, Schdy.
.) Moved into my new quarters, Shap acting agreeable throughout the process.
.) Had a fairly agreeable talk with Shap relative to Marsh, who, Shap says, is due here in a day or so to inspect the Pickatiinny Arsenal job & we can then work on him.
.) Talked nearly an hour twice today on Paul Sassaman's and Ernie Shank's General Course test boys on the organization of the Apparatus Sales Dept. - made almost no preparation, talked entirely extemporaneously, and really enjoyed it immensely; it was a satisfaction to do it like that and I believe it would be advantageous to seize every opportunity to talk that way before people. I shall need such training as time goes on.
