7.) Still am stymied on getting started properly on the new job - devoted very little time to it today - couldn't with the other things I had to to do. Tomorrow Jay Walker, Phil Hatch and Harland Page will be here to discuss the New Haven order and with Rudy and Doc away, I'm elected!
8.) Gouldy back from Philadelphia reporting hope for the tank drive and the weight differential now cut from 8600 to 4000 lb! General Barnes says though, that we must not weigh one ounce more! Apparently he attaches little importance to experience!
9.) Attended the Forman's Asen. & Quarter Century Club dinner tonight for Phil Reed. His speech of course transcended everything else at the dinner. He told us - or rather described to us what the General Electric Company is. It was as fascinating as reading a fine article in "Fortune". His explanation of the Carboloy "scandal" in which the federal government has implied we are holding hands with the Nazis, was most interesting. He was cut short by the necessity for catching the 9:18 train and I'm positive everyone was disappointed he could not talk on and on - I could listen to him by the hour, fascinated. To me, he is a man who has everything and we would all do well to emulate his graciousness, his poise, his charm, his calm attitude. Mr. Emmet said he was proud when he presented him to a luncheon group of Erie business men today, and he may well have been - for in my opinion Phil Reed is someone to be proud of. I hope some day I shall have the privelege of knowing him. He made the evening and it was a large one.
