Shap seemed to really take hold of the target car proposition today and got going on it in earnest, and I think he will do a good job of it. He and Cain left for Washington tonight to get an understanding with the Gov't. on the car, and also sell the power plant. Shap also took the Navy folder with him and will try to get that job pried loose - I don't quite see how I'm going to arbitrarily take that job away from him and give it to Jake without creating trouble. I may have to revise my ideas on allocation of work. In the meantime, I'm taking a new Navy schedule for one 50 ton for Washington Navy Yard - would like to handle this one myself and see if for once we can't make a clean cut proposition. Then if we get it, I'll give it to Shap probably. I may give him the Navy and Jake the Army. Gave Eddie a bunch of miscellaneous jobs today and he took them all cheerfully and tore into them. I want to give him a good break the first chance I get - maybe Ford if I can get Rudy to agree to on taking it over.

The Colonel arrived today for "Franksgiving", as they now refer to it when it is one week early. Ours is next week but in Kentucky it is Today! So we are celebrating Sunday. About half the states have it today and half next Thursday and it is a national joke. The Colonel looks fine - never saw him look better and we had a congenial bottle of ale at Cunningham's before retiring. He is, of course, interested in my new job and over some potent Ballantine's, it was a distinct pleasure to tell him all about it, with some of Jay Walker's choice stories thrown in.
