[[underline]] Farmington to [[space]] [[/underline]]

[[underline]] Oct. 20.[[/underline]] Snowed and rained all night and the ground was white in the morning, but warm and sunshiny Packed up and started for Largo at 11:30 after the mail had come from Fruitland, and reached there at 6:30, about 25 miles up the San Juan Valley.

Stopped at Blanco, across the river from Largo, as we found good accomodations there at old Mr. Emerts. There is little farming above Farmington except at a few points, Bloomfield & Blanco, and a few scattered ranches, but many new farms are being opened & a company is going to put a big ditch around the valley. The river is large and wide and full of water. Cottonwood bottoms are scattered along and brush usually goes with them. The orchards of apple, peach & plum trees are thrifty and the trees look smooth & healthy & vigorous. Alfalfa stacks are seen at most of the ranches & the old farms have a prosperous appearance. The soil is good, in places sandy & again well mixed & again pure gumbo clay.

Transcription Notes:
few small edits -@meg_shuler "Emerts" is not easy to read here, but a few pages later "Mrs. Emert" is very clear.
