There is little water in these mts. except in ponds and reservoirs, but grass is abundant and good. There is lots of stock where water can be had. There are no ranches on the road until we came out at San Antonio spring in the valley near Clovis.
The railroad valley to Bluewater is open, flat, weedy, gumbo land, with no water and not much grass. At Bluewater there is a settlement and a lot of ranches irrigated from the Bluewater Reservoir. The land is mainly very stony walpai or very barren sand, and the crops seen to be mainly hay. A few cabbages & one patch of sugar beets were seen, but there is also lots of good land if they can get enough good water for it. There is only a poor little store at Bluewater & no hotel. The wind blew fiercely and cold. Camped in corral at the Bluewater Devl. Co. headquarters.
