The season was favorable for geological work, and a large supply of material was secured which will be studied later. 

Other expeditions included those of Dr. W. R. Maxon to Central America and Mr. Paul Standley to Panama, both for botanical field work. Mr. C. R. Aschemeier has returned from an expedition to Brazil. Dr. Paul Bartsch has been doing field work in connection with the breeding experiments of Cerions in Florida and the West Indies. 

SALARIES OF SMITHSONIAN EMPLOYEES UNDER THE RECLASSIFICATION ACT.

Under the operation of the Classification Act, which will take effect July 1, 1924, the members of the scientific staff in the Government branches of the Institution have been allotted considerable increases in their salaries, but still fall below many of those in technical bureaus of the Department of Agriculture and the Interior Department. Briefly reviewed, this class will fare as follows:
