results at the next meeting of the Board; said committee to consist of two members of the Board of Regents, three members of the National Gallery of Art Commission, with the Secretary of the Institution as exofficio member.

After discussion, a motion was adopted appointing as the Committee Messrs. White and Delano of the Board of Regents; Messrs. Adams, Melchers, and Gest, of the Commission; and the Secretary of the Institution.

ANNUAL REPORTS UNDER THE INSTITUTION.

The Secretary states that the annual report of the Smithsonian Institution for the year 1922 was in page proof and ready to go to press, but that the amount of the appropriation available would not print it until after the first of next July. He stated that it would be necessary to get deficiency appropriations to catch up with the printing of the annual reports; and also that the appropriations proposed by the Budget for printing for the National Museum and the Bureau of American Ethnology were inadequate.

The following statement was submitted in relation to the appropriations needed for Printing and Binding under the Smithsonian Institution:-

Smithsonian Annual Reports.

During the war, the Annual Reports of the Smithsonian Institution were allowed to fall over two years behind date: i.e., the Report for 1918 came out in 1920, that for 1919 appeared in 1921, and so on. The annual allotment for printing these Reports is $10,000. As it is only barely possible to publish one of these volumes for this amount, it is obvious that they will continue to come out two years late indefinitely, unless an additional $10,000 is granted to enable the Institution to bring out two reports in one year.
