[[underlined]] Amendments to the Retirement Act. [[/underlined]]

The Secretary said that at the last meeting he had brought to the Board's attention that under the operations of the Retirement Act, as interpreted by the Civil Service Commission, a number of the scientific staff of the Institution would be compelled to retire, and that the Board had requested him to prepare a bill providing for exemptions under certain circumstances and to submit it to the Congressional Regents. This he had done, and the bill had been introduced in the Senate by Senator Smoot and in the House of Representatives by Mr. Albert Johnson.

After comments, Senator Smoot suggested that Representatives Johnson and Moore be requested to urge prompt action in the House, which the Senate would immediately follow. Mr. Moore stated that he would take this up.

NATIONAL MUSEUM ACTIVITIES.

Dr. Wetmore briefly spoke of the Museum expeditions being conducted in various parts of the world by Messrs. Leonard, Krieger, Poole, Perrygo, Collins, Foshag, and others, in the anthropological, natural history and mineralogy departments of the Museum.

He also spoke of the proposed new reptile house to be erected at the National Zoological Park.
