wings as indicated in the plans of 1918 but should be continuous with the present building, being built around three sides of the court, the fourth side of the court being provided by the present external end walls of the building. Each of these additions will be approximately 230 x 300 feet.

[[underlined]]Historical Museum.[[/underlined]]

This building will house in proper setting our wonderful historical exhibits which are now crowded into inadequate space in the present Natural History and Arts and Industries Buildings. In the original plan it was contemplated that these should occupy lower floors in the structure plan for the Fine Arts. The historical collections are so extensive that they require separate housing.

A building for this purpose, to be located between Ninth Street and Seventh Street, east of the Natural History Building, will required to be approximately 460 x 220 feet, and four stories high.

This should follow third in the program of building and will need to be constructed before the Old Museum Building is removed as that structure will be used temporarily for all the historical exhibits when the industrial material is removed.

[[underlined]]National Gallery of Art.[[/underlined]]

This is mentioned here as it was included in the original plan. The Extension of Ninth Street cuts through the area east of the Natural History Building originally assigned to the structure, and it is our understanding that a new site has been selected fronting on me Department of Agriculture grounds. Further it has been said that the building would be erected at private expense and presented to the Government. There is contemplated a building approximately 560 feet long by 350 feet wide.
