necessarily assumed by the Institution and the Nation, acceptance was recommended to the Board of Regents. Subsequently the Congress passed a joint resolution which was approved by the President June 6, 1929, authorizing the Institution to convey appropriate acknowledgements to Mr. Gellatly and to include in its estimates sums necessary for the accommodation and maintenance of the collection. 

The current activities of the Gallery for the year detailed at some length in the Annual Report included the following:

1. Offers of Art Works as Gifts.
2. Loans Accepted.
3. Temporary Exhibitions Held in the Gallery during the Year.
4. Distributions of Former Loans.
5. Re-installation of collections.
6. Library Report.

On motion, the Secretary's report was approved.

The Chairman at this point spoke of the proximate termination of the services of Dr. Holmes as Director of the National Gallery of Art, and, after paying a tribute to his services as such and as Secretary of the Commission, it was suggested that an expression of the Commission's feeling in this connection be communicated to Dr. Holmes.

On motion, the following resolution was adopted:

RESOLVED; That the Chairman appoint a Committee to prepare a suitable expression of the sentiments of the Commission with reference to the retirement of Dr. W. H. Holmes.

The Chairman appointed Mr. Moore, Mr. Parmelee and Mr. Gest.

Dr. Abbot explained the steps taken in regard to the offer of Mr. John Gellatly and its acceptance, stating that through an Act of Congress funds would be provided for the maintenance of the collection during the next four years. He added that special cards of admission to the collection
