The Board met at the Institution at 10.00 o'clock A.M.

PRESENT.

The Honorable Charles Evans Hughes, Chief Justice of the United States, Chancellor, in the chair;
The Honorable Charles Curtis, Vice President of the United States;
Senator Joseph T. Robinson;
Representative Albert Johnson;

"[[ditto for Representative]] Robert Luce;
Mr. Frederic A. Delano;
Dr. John C. Merriam; and
The Secretary, Dr. C.G. Abbot.
Dr. Alexander Wetmore, Assistant Secretary, was also present. 

PRESENTATION OF THE LANGLEY GOLD MEDAL TO CHARLES M.MANLY(POSTHUMOUSLY).

Member of Mr. ManlY's family were present, including his eldest son, to whom the Chancellor spoke as follows:-

Mr. Charles W. Manly:

The Langley Medal was established by the Board of Regents at its Annual Meeting of 1908 - "to be awarded for specially meritorious investigations in connection with the science of aerodromics and its application to aviation". 

The medal has been presented to Wilbur and Orville Wright in 1910, to Gustave Eiffel and Glenn Curtis in 1913, and to Charles Lindburgh in 1927.

It was awarded posthumously to Charles Matthews Manly at the Board meeting of December 12, 1929. This exceptional action was taken in recognition of the fact that the outstanding merits of Mr. manly's invention and
