"THOU SHALT NOT KILL."

"Vengeance is mine I will repay," saith the Lord.

War and rumors of wars; earthquakes in divers places, hatred and maltreatment, race riots, and absence of the brotherhood of man: surely "times are out of joint." Someday, sooner or later, the Lord will come and he shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend. Man's inhumanity to man is largely responsible for the awful condition of present existing affairs, and until he comes into the realization of his obligation to treat every man as his brother, home, state and country will be deplorable. When every 1 of us shall live up to the mandates of God's holy law, "do unto others as ye would be done by," then, and not till then, shalt God's kingdom come; then shall "mercy and truth meet together and righteousness and peace shall kiss each other."

September is the month that he said to stand as a goddess, holding in her hands all season's homage. As the earth has yielded her fruits, and the trees have brought forth every manner of tasty eatables, cast her shade for them who bore the burden in the heat of the day, the responsibility was nonetheless upon the workers in the vineyard of the Master. What fruit have you to offer? How many Sunday schools have you been instrumental in helping to build up? How much did you give to mission? Who saw your light shining?

Our summer's work closes with this issue of the Magazine, and our heavenly Father stands asking how much you did for the Cause during the summer months. Surely you help your class work to grow, and we hope the many plans set forth and taught by the various Sunday school conventions were carried out with a spirit and a love that shall never falter nor waver and the seed sown shall reap thirty, some sixty, and some a hundredfold.

THE AMELANCHIER.

In the southern part of Europe, in Asia, Africa and some parts of North America grows a tree known as the Amelanchier. Its common name is "Service Tree." It is given this name because its fruit and timber serve many purposes. Its fruit has a very sweet, delicious and juicy taste much prized by the natives, while its wood is so smoothed-grain, and endurable that it is much used in making machinery. For this reason its botanical name has gladly given place to that of "service." A wonderful lesson we can learn from this tree. The human body is a wonderful piece of mechanism. Said by one, "fearfully and wonderfully made;" "a little lower than the angels."

The Apostle Paul said, "Not one member, but many.... If the whole were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? If they were all one member, where were the body?"

These members of the body have been given us by our Maker to put to wholesome Christian use. We can guide our feet that they may not walk in forbidden paths; how eyes must look upon things that will not cause the soul to sin in precept, example or imagination; our ears must hear thase things that are elevating and not degrading; our hands must lift up a fallen brother; our voices must mount upwards in praise to God as if on the wings of a dove. This body which is so wonderfully made must be dedicated to God for service. God wants man to glorify him, and his greatest delight is to glorify man. He had prepared numbers of pleasures beyond conception for them that love him, and he pleads that our entire lives may be lives of service. In serving others we serve God, and in serving God, life becomes a great joy.

THE NATIONAL BAPTIST THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY.

Some charm their hearers by singing to them in voices sweet and melodious "It's Real, Oh, I know It's real!" Others stop, seemingly the world in its path around the sun by eloquence of "when dreams come true." Sometimes we read, dream, and think of how such things would be if this or that were the case, and sigh over the expectation of a realization; some dream and awake only to find a vanished myth, but what joy beyond expression when a dream really comes true. The National Theological Seminary is no more a dream, never a myth, but a REALITY. The long looked-for day has come to the Negro Baptists, the pride of their cherished desire, and how "Beautiful for situation" is the newly found college. The buildings are imposing, colossal and structure, fully equipped, and the campus is inviting

beyond compare. "How beautiful for situation" is the once Boscobel College, now to be a Theological Seminary for the training of our Baptist young people in Christian service. Along with the Christian religion must go Christian education, and anything less than both for the true development of manhood and womanhood is an unfinished job. The home, the church, and the school, every avenue of life need prepared people to operate the work set apart in each particular sphere. We hope the Metokas will spare no pains in helping to bear the burden of paying for this beautiful, and newly purchased school. Classes can pledge $25, @50, or $.00 or $10.00 easily and help prepare our men for the future. We hope also that the Galedas will be allowed a place to prepare as Christian workers as well as receive Biblical instruction. There is plenty to do. Let us as Metokas and Galedas help in this struggle and the victory shall indeed be ours.
