Lights on the Lesson
By Rev. Bernard Byrd, D. D.
[Column 1]
LIGHT NO. 1 - All of the post mortem claims of idolatrous religions were dangling entirely in imagination, most of which was questionable. The idol worshippers were sure of only those things which they possessed or experienced. They had not even a guarantee of future aid or blessings in the flesh. Life after death was so mysterious that even certain Jews held that there was none. One of the tasks of Christianity was to convince the world of a better life in Christ in the flesh, and also a perfect hereafter in the spirit.

LIGHT No. 2 - (Col.) Paul in this Scripture strives to show men that eternal life begins in the flesh and continues through to the life in the body prepared of God. The presence of eternal life is demonstrated by the type of life lived by the possessor.

[Column 2]
LIGHT NO. 3 - Eternal life is introduced by a system of putting on and putting into the man certain things which characterize a change. Put on holiness that your character might reveal Christ the eternal to mankind, and put in the keeping power which sustains men unto the Eternal life of God in Christ.

LIGHT NO. 4 - (I John) In this Scripture, John the Divine makes without mentioning idolatry, a contrast of idols and the true God. In the true God is life. In the idol there is no life. The idol depends upon the true God Jehovah for everything. Man's certainty of having eternal life is dependent upon his being in God, for in him is life.

Editorial Reflections
by Rev. S. A. Pleasants, D. D.
[Column 1]
Christ being the Resurrection and Life, all who believe in Him, shall be as He. They can tell that they truly believe in Him, because they forever seek the things from above where He is. Their minds are ever set above, and day by day, they are weaned from the things here below. When one dies to sin, this death is brought about by the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit creates him or her in Christ, thus hiding his or her life with Christ in God.

When we are put in Christ, He becomes our life. When He becomes our life, we have then Eternal Life, because He is Eternal. Since He is our Life when He appears in glory, all who are in Him, will appear in His glory. It is the earnest desire and fondest hope of all of His, to be more like Him: Hence the Holy Spirit makes those who are of such, like the One, they dwell in.

All who are His, are given a heart of compassion, and the Holy Spirit puts in them kindness, lowliness, meekness, longsuffering, and helps them to forbear one another, and forgive each other. The real Christian is delighted to for-

give like Christ delights to forgive. In fact the Christian has the mind, heart and Spirit of Christ, and will not do different to that which is done by His Savior and Lord of Life.

Love is the bond of perfection. All who have love that God has, the kind that He gives, love that Christ said, the whole Law and Prophesy were filled full, and that to have such and do it, met the requirement of the God-Head, have come up to the Standard of Christianity. This is not done by human efforts at all; but by the Holy Spirit's work, through the faith of one in Christ Jesus.

The peace of God becomes ruler in the heart and life of one, who loves as God requires. All who come to this, are thankful to God, because they know that it is not done by humanity, but by Divinity. All they do in word or deed they do in the name of Him who saves all and thank our Father for everything. Thankful hearts have in them the word of Jesus; planted there by the Holy Spirit, which keeps that one from sin.
