I could not accept Magistrates office from the fact it would have vacated my Licenss to plead at the Bar. But I have had appointed in my stead W. S. Badget a Justice of the Peace who stays in my Office every day advises colored people how to obtain the wages due them. Issues warrants when called upon has the parties brought up and adjudicates the claims under my supervision

This I hope will Suffice and accomplish the same good as though I was acting myself. He is a Truly Loyal man in all respects and has business capacity not inferior to any man in this County I hope he may be continued my clerk especially till after the Presidents Election for the good of its Colored people & the Country at Large

I have the honor to be General
