about [[underlined]] $25.00. [[/underlined]] that on the strength of this permission, which Hatch considered as all that was necessary, he traded the Government Boat away for the horse, a cart, and a canoe. [[underlined]] Alfred Poole [[/underlined]] was a partner with [[underlined]] Hatch [[/underlined]] in this transaction, and although not taking any part in the bargain, states that he understood the whole transaction to be just as [[underlined]] Hatch [[/underlined]] reports it, and states that on the day the trade was made [[underlined]] Dr Fleming [[/underlined]] asked him [[underlined]] (Poole) [[/underlined]] "Do you know if [[underlined]] Hatch [[/underlined]] has succeeded in trading off the boat?" [[underlined]] Hatch [[/underlined]] and [[underlined]] Poole [[/underlined]] both agree in estimating the value of the horse to be about [[underlined]] $60.00.[[/underlined]] and states that the boat was worth about [[underlined]] $50.00. [[/underlined]] The value of the cart and canoe may be approximated by referring to the proceeds of the late Sale. The Government boat thus traded was transferred by [[underlined]] Capt Hillebrandt [[/underlined]], to [[underlined]] Capt McKillip [[/underlined]], who transferred it to [[underlined]] Col Moore [[/underlined]], and was transferred by him to [[underlined]] Dr Fleming [[/underlined]] in October 1867. Neither [[underlined]] Hatch [[/underlined]] nor [[underlined]] Poole [[/underlined]] know anything concerning the name or residence of the man to whom the boat was traded, and I am unable to find any clue to its whereabouts.
