Referring to my letter of the 21st and your instructions of the 22nd inst. I have the honor to report, that having ascertained that Asa Isley is a lawful Justice of the Peace, I wrote to him on receipt of your instructions requesting that he review his actions in this Case and inviting his attention to the fact that a charge of Larceny cannot be sustained etc.

He has however yesterday committed Joseph Harvey to Jail on that charge.

I immediately saw W. A. Smith Esq. President of the N.C.R.R. who requested me to let Harvey be carried to jail, and that he them would bail him
