Got to New York. After being barbered in style I 'opped a 'ansom and landed at 25th 5th, where my old enemy Arthur greeted me with outstretched arms. Then I beat it to the Excelsior Co. Uncle Dwight and I went shopping, and when we got through I had enough to fill a flock of vans. I'm mighty glad I "haulled" that big trunk.

Uncle Dwight was our host at "Salomy Jane" and the Hotel Astor in the evening, and then, at 2 a.m. I started to pack, while the bunch looked on in astonishment at my sumptuous wardrobe. It dazzled 'em.

Sailed at ten o'clock on the R.M.S. "Majestic". Dike, Boomp, and Arthur were down to see me off, as was Mr. Jones. We started out in the rain, but it cleared up beautifully a little later on.

I changed two sovereigns on the wharf, and I got a hatful of British coin, from sixpence to 'arf a crown. This coinage system will have me dippy yet. Stewart, one of the boys going out with me, said to Sutton, "Look at this rotten money." Beg pardon, sir," interrupted a steward, "That's deucedly good money, y'know, sir." Hell it is.
