Plymouth - London

[[preprinted]] Wednesday, September 11, 1907 [[preprinted]]

Sighted Land's End this morning at 11.30. My first glimpse of English shores. On the way to Plymouth we saw part of the Channel fleet at manoevures [[note]]hell[[note]], & target practice, and saw some destroyers ^[[and one battleship]] at very close range. We went to London, 200 miles distant, without a stop, and got a rather good impression of English railways. Registered at the Metropole, and after dinner we drove around to see the town. We saw a great deal in the little time we spent that way, and then we beat it up to the Cafe Europe, which is the Martin-Cairo of this town. London is a damned big burg. We have another day to have that idea further impressed on our minds.

London

[[preprinted]] Thursday, September 12, 1907 [[preprinted]]

After breakfast we blew down to the London office and met Mr. Slingby. He took us around town and we got the several articles on our list. The rest of the time, so far, was spent in buying hansoms. They come cheap in this town, 2 & 6 an hour. In the evening we had dinner with the American bunch, and then repassed to the Empire, where we saw a first rate show. We got on the promenade to take a look at the girls near the end of the show, and smoly hoke, but you got 'em all ways. They were just a bit diffident, if I remember rightly. Then took in the Continental. Worse and worse. Drove around town, and woke up the hotel to get in.
