Italy-en-route. Genoa

[[preprinted]] Sunday, September 15, 1907 [[/preprinted]]

I gazed out of my window spellbound this morning. We were crossing the Italian Alps, and the scenery was magnificent, to say the least. High snow-capped mountains above, and down below the valleys and the villages of the French and Italian frontier. We got past the customs without trouble we spent the day admiring the beauty passing before our eyes, and for myself I never had so much that was beautiful to look on as I had today. Reached Genoa in the early evening- had dinner up town-Savoie- and then took to our train for the night.

Rome-Naples

[[preprinted]] Monday, September 16, 1907 [[/preprinted]]

Rome greeted us as we awoke this morning. We had a few hours in town, so we visited as much as we could in that time. We saw the Roman forum, the Pantheon of Agrippa, and the other works of the Romans, and we visited St. P[[strikethrough]] auls [[/strikethrough]]eters and stood under that wonderful dome. We had to board the Italian train infernal soon and we saw Naples and ^[[the]] smoking Vesuvius about half past three. Had a little to do in the town, and then went off to the [[strikethrough]] str [[/strikethrough]] "markgrat" where I am writing now. We sail in a few hours.

Our next land will be another world, the oldest civilization known. We are seeing much these days
