We're transforming the office downstairs. I've got some Aleppey matting around the desks, and when I get the new chicks up, another screen and most of all a new punkah, the place will be a Fairyland sure. Now the proper thing to do is some business to pay for it.

Anyway, we sold a paltry four thousand odd bales last month, and I guess they can stand it.

This mail is coming in altogether too early these days. The second boat got in at one today. However, I'd finished up my weekly talk with NY. & London in the morning,so I wasn't ketched.

In the evening I had grub with some of my fellow Americans. We had some bridge, and the old man and I lost about seven rubbers running. I got a "grand slam" in a no trumper as a sort of consolation, though. The old man plays with a book by his side, and when his deal or his partner's goes down, he opens up and tells you what it "distinctly states" in the book. It reminds me of learning to swim by [[strikethrough]]the[[/strikethrough]] correspondence.
