As I feared. I made one last stab at the old man today, but he stood pat, and all I could do was to walk out with a smiling face,- and empty handed. It gets on one's nerves, it does, to get it just in your fist and then as your fingers close convulsively on it to have it fly away. But I'll have him on the hip before I get through. We'll see if a little outside sale or two doesn't wake him up.

Went down to Bond's today,- we had tea, went over to the Club for a little while and then I stayed to dinner,- the last time I will share his festive board for some time, I guess. You bet I'm sorry to have them go, for I've got lots of enjoyment out of them since I struck this burg.

That monsoon certainly did some tall monsoonin' today. I though the damned winders was comin' out, 'strewth.
