Nothing doing.

I've been amusing myself with my spare time and spare coin this past year collecting "curios", so-called, but I fear mostly made to order. Here's a list on 'em: Spears, shields, baskets, bangles, ivory tips, spoons, knives, wooden pillows, necklaces (made in Germany), ostrich eggs, sandalwood boxes, leopard skins, tabarets, native water-bottles, mother-o'-pearl shells, und Gottweisnoch. I hope the Kid won't accuse me of lack of variety. I have done me 'umble best.

'Nother cotton-boat in today. I will have only two more shipments, I expect, and then I will strike out for Africy. I shall hate to leave old Aden, though, I tell you. The old burg has got an undefinable grip on me that makes it hard to part. But the best of friends must say "so long."

Mac of the Bank says he expects to hike to Karachi next spring. Ye gods, would 'twere me!
