We could have reached Kilindini early this afternoon, all right, but the Capt. decided not to run too far ahead of his mail schedule, so we reached port about ten in the evening, and anchored for the night. I hope I will like the joint as well as old Aden, that's all. Cheer up, 'Merica's only seventeen hundred miles further away.

We came into Kilindini this morning. Abdulla came on board and gave me a letter saying Stewart was ^[[abed,]] recovering from typhoid. Cheerful bit o' news. Got onto the gharri and reached the house about nine, in the morning, and found new Nochelle slightly on the punk, but able to sit up and take notice. Along comes a cable from Zanzibar saying all ivory must [[strikethrough]] possibly [[/strikethrough]] ^[[positively]] be shipped tomorrow, so I duffed in right away and worked like hell until the whistle blew. But anyway, it'll go tomorrow. Altogether I made quite a strenuous debut in this village.
