Started in buying a few hippo teeth today. Got a letter from Zbar. with an order for a thousand pounds for London, and I corralled about three quarters of that amount today, ten per cent under limits. Wish we could do that in ivory! Well, say!

By gum, one wonders where all these bloody animals come from. The ivory that comes in here seems inexhaustible, and the quantity is amazing. I must have over a thousand hippo teeth in the lot I got today, so you can see there are a few of those animals bobbing around here, too. Rhino horns are somewhat scarcer, ^[[I should judge]] but [[strikeout]] as I haven't been watching them can't say for sure.

Taking pictures today. Vining fell for that book-agent chap down in Zanzibar, and we will have our hut and mug in his doggone book. We toted out some of the ivory and stuck it up in front of the place, just as old Jo came by. And how he did tease Alidina for that stuff! Well, if he only knew it, we had just as much more inside. There's one thing that's a dead cert, and that is that we've got his show lashes to the mast when it comes to pembi. Oh, we're paying our way with our little 1 1/4%, without touching cotton commissions, and that's one damsite more than they are. Oh, we'll have a Hebrew scalp hanging up in our tepee before long!
