Little busy today, as the Khalif came in with about 200 bales for us. Also a case of tutti-frutti that Arnold sent out. What does he think we are anyway,-a grocery store? But I suppose if there's anything in it, it goes. For my part, I must admit, I'd handle manure, for a decent commission. Only I'd have somebody else peddle it around for me.

Well, the Chamber of Commerce is a dead one now, all right. Ten of the foreign firms, including ourselves, resigned today, and the ten of us represent just about 95 per cent of the business of this dump, as I believe I mentioned a few days ago. The Britishers haven't ^[[hardly]] got enough white firms to fill out the darned offices and committee. And the poor secretary, unless they raise the subscriptions, I'm afraid will have to go without his 'ard hearned screw. The chamber isn't what you might term "over-laden with the necessary."
