Found a rather good one in one of the last "Heralds," - of Lieutenant Gov'na' Randall and his butle'. Well, some yea's befo' the wa' a free yellow woman that he hi'ed as chambe' maid fell in love with his butle' Jupite', but she wasn't willing to ma'y a slave. What did she do, then, but take her saving and buy Jupite' from Mista' Randall. The two got along pretty well togethe' fo' a while after the ma'iage, and then one mo'nin' at breakfast the butle' was missing.

"Jinny, whe's Jupite'?" Mista' Randall inqui'ed.

"Huh," said Jinny with a toss of the head, "Ah done sol' dat wuffless niggah."

Stole a march by making up my balance and writing out the accounts today. Nothing like working when the fit is on you. Godnose, it usually doesn't last very long.
