I picked a few good ones out of this mail. Here's one:

"Ma's making father
Sleep out of doors.
Consumptive? No,
Because he snores."

And another:

"She mopped her brow
But nothing more.
It was her ma
Who mopped the floor."

One more:

"She said her fortune was her face.
Responded he
That poverty
Was no disgrace."

"An anaconda told a hen
That of her he was fonder
Than all things else. But
she soon found
The anaconda'd conned [['er]]"

The "Khedive" came in today, - brought us 275 bales. It's a good lot for here, all right!

Got my binoculars from London today. Say, they are certainly beauts. Eighty two chips and eight more for duty, - they ought to be slightly to the merry.
