La Belle Slipp graciously asked me [[strikethrough]] dinner [[/strikethrough]] to dine with them at the Club tonight. We had a very enjoyable evening, during which mine hostess helped me drag three dibs out of her husband in so many rubbers. It ain't every married woman'll do that.

Winckler's show have had hard luck with their men lately. Last winter one man was laid up with rheumatic fever within a week of his arrival, and after a six or seven weeks' siege was invalided home. A new chap came out at once, arriving here end of January. He went to the hospital stricken with typhoid, six weeks later, and died yesterday. The poor chaps folks at home are to be pitied. The funeral was very depressing - it always is out here. Winckler was pretty much upset.

A pretty sad ending for a young fellow who came out here all full of life only ten weeks ago.
