Took a drive down to Point this morning. It's a long and dusty road and the sun is fierce. Been warehousing my cottons all day, and that called for another little trip to Maala in the afternoon. Outside of these two exciting episodes, the day was tame enough. In the evening, however, we had some clam-chowder at Belle's.

I don't quite agree with Belle, that it "tastes like Pear's soap," but I don't think caviar is worth the price it brings. Winckler rushed two tins off a recent Russian ship, and we've been getting it twice a day ever since, with sometimes sandwiches at tea thrown in. I expect we'll get it at breakfast next.

Went over to Belle's for tea this afternoon. Gee, but she cusses that butler. And I don't blame 'er. If he isn't a north end then I never seen one.
