About the only noteworthy thing that [[strikethrough]] came [[/strikethrough]] happened today was that the mail came in four hours ahead of time. Heard from Smith, who says he was ordered to Aden. So I guess it's about settled that I hie me back to East Africa, and I don't relish the prospect. Think of going down against the monsoon, and another hot season down there!

I think I'm about ripe for a trip home, instead of staying out another half-year.

Wal, they're warn't nuthin' doin' today, 'cept taking in a little coin. Three thousand plunks is a pretty small amount to bother with these days [[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] So is 60 bales, but it's so much off our stocks, and so much that Benine is discommoded. We may not have to sacrifice to him, after all.

I suppose old Benine must be in Europe now - and I bet he's shelling out through the proboscis, too. Wouldn't you stick him, if you had the chanst? Well, I should guess yes.
