The third picture in this group is below and also was taken on the ferry ride. It is the only snapshot we have of our lovely blue Dodge, which at this point was virtually brand new. I wrote that the left side door was dented at the Kahkwa Club but I see such a dent at the bottom of the right side door in this photo so I was evidently wrong. This shows it was minor but its presence haunted me for years -- but not quite enough to get it fixed. Here we can see a generous running board as well as white sidewall tires, the latter very classy. Also, this may have been our first car with windshield wings on the doors, one of the greatest inventions in the automotive business and now abandoned, presumably to push people into buying air-conditioning. Willie and Bab have their backs to the camera while Chick Reed is standing on the running board. At this point Bab was close to her 13th birthday and it is evident that she is suddenly emerging into young womanhood.

Charlie Reed wasn't on vacation so the rest of us spent the days sightseeing while he worked at Ft. Eustis. One of our most successful outings was the one to Williamsburg, the colonial capital of Virginia, which had been largely restored by a huge grant from John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Charming, authentic, neat and beautifully done, we wandered around it fascinated and got an excellent set of movie shots that, once again, I wish it were possible to get in here some way.
