dreadful pain to Charlie, Ed, etc. I really think he's sincere in his desire to do a good job for the war effort. [[close bracket]]

[[open bracket]] I was determined today to get my desk fairly well cleaned up so elected to come back this evening. Charlie Creasser and I went out together and he took me up to his apartment to pick up his wife - but she wasn't home yet. Charlie made a drink - a mixture of two brands of scotch and lime rickey that turned out to be ulta powerful unexpectedly. We drove down to Naylor's to meet Mrs. Creasser for dinner and Charlie really opened up about himself and various things. Married eleven years and no children - his wife can't have them without an operation and it has been a great disappointment but apparently she doesn't want to go through the surgery involved - takes the attitude that if the good Lord didn't arrange her to have children, she is going to accept it. She has a [[underline]] job now that is so secret, [[/underline]] even Charlie doesn't know what she does! She is a very nice person - I like her better every time I see her - a simple, genuine, friendly girl that really grows on one. We all had [[underline]] Naylor's [[/underline]] famed crab lump au gratin and a pleasant visit together and Charlie absolutely insisted on paying for the dinner - said he had eaten on me plenty of times.

[[underline]] We got back to the office at 9 PM [[/underline]] and I stayed until 11:30, my latest yet. Among other things I got together a [[underline]] draft of GE's release through the first quarter - [[/underline]] the last one I have done [[underline]] except Porter, [[/underline]] which is such a mess I can't release it until we decide what's to be done there about next year's output in view of Evans taking 30 0-6-0's in the first quarter. [[underline]] Tom will be in next Tuesday [[/underline]] and Charlie is going to have [[underline]] Ed Harley do the interviewing [[/underline]] rather than me as it is a ticklish spot for me - Charlie is planning to go to Montreal next week.
