[[all underlines in red pencil]]
more of Congress in action when we could go evenings if we just did it instead of drinking and [[underline]] eating so late. [[/underline]]

[[red pencilled x and bullet point]] Went back to the office this evening to work on my Kardex file and miscellaneous matters and left at 10:15. When I got back to the hotel, there was a note to call Philadelphia operator. It was [[underline]] Corrine [[circled, and written above the name]] 115 [[/circled]] Donovan, [[/underline]] down there expediting and we had a long talk. I didn't learn any more about his case except of course to gather he feels more sinned against than sinning which is natural. He may drop down here sometime and then I'll get the whole story from his angle.

[[red pencilled checkmark and bullet point]] Had nothing to drink again today, having dinner at L'escargot with Marshall. My bladder trouble seems to be [[underline]] gone completely. [[/underline]] [[underline]] I feel good [[/underline]] not to be drinking. But I still [[underline]] smoke [[/underline]] too much.

Washington, D.C.
Wednesday, Sept. 23, '42.
[[red bullet point with arrow down the page]] Had breakfast with Whitey and he will settle I think on the W.O.C. basis later on. Edward Arnold, in town on some bond campaigning, was eating nearby - as big and jowly as he appears in movies.

To show the loose system here, all the telegrams to the builders giving AA2X for engines for the 3rd quarter were supposed to be turned down by the ANMB. But Vulcan's got through and they were overjoyed to receive it!

[[red pencilled bullet point and arrow up the page (towards earlier arrow)]] This was the night we were to be entertained on Col. Lockwood's yacht but Charlie Creasser called the party off so we could all work on the material flow program and I pushed a baby slide rule from 8 to 11 PM until I could barely see straight.
