- I don't give a damn how many people are ahead; get him on! - Okay!" And Mr. Wilson flew to New York. It almost sounds like Hitler's Germany; and yet maybe C.E.W. is entitled to it.

[[checkmark, bullet point]] In an hour tonight I saw Justice Frank Murphy of the Supreme Court in the Carlton lobby, Sidney Hillman at L'Escargot and Dorothy Lamour at L'Escargot. One sees so many notables in Washington it gets to be an old story. Murphy, who is back on the Court after a leave of absence as a Lt. Col. in the army, had on a sloppy felt hat, sport coat and looked like a play boy. Lamour was eating dinner with a young naval officer and I must say she was rather beautiful in the flesh - lovely complextion etc. We looked each [[underlined]] other in the eyes as we walked out [[/underlined]] and it was okay. Dressed stylishly and simply, she didn't look much like the sarong girl.

[[checkmark, bullet point]] At 8:15 PM I dropped in at the Plymouth suite at the Ambassador to talk a little business and found the party characterically inebriate to the extent that business was impossible. I hung around a few minutes for Jack Hogsett to turn up and when he did he was reeling drunk. They had the entourage of Taylor Wilson, Tatiana Flanagan, etc. there and everyone seemed at odds with everyone else. I turned down drinks a dozen times and left about 9 PM.
[[vertical line]] That outfit is efficient businesswise but in their off hours I have never seen such hell raising. This bird Hogsett is a miracle. How he can be drunk every night and half the day and still do such a good job with WPB. I cannot understand - but I give him credit; he gives us as good service at WPB as anyone and better than most of them. I fear however, he will come some day to a bad end. [[/vertical line]]
