his talents at our expense in an effort to regain his lost money. Mat's wife is still here, so he keeps pretty sober on a milk diet but he has thrown some absolutely fabulous parties for friends and told me he is $250 over his $10 a day in the past week! Matt will eat breakfast in the drugstore to save 50ยข and then blow away $50 the same night in a big dinner party. Mat has developed into a real character at the office and is well liked, belying my first judgment of him considerably. He and I have struck up quite a friendship and one in which a great deal of razzing takes place each way - the best kind. His favorite razzoos at me are about the dirty jobs I have handed him to do and my proximity to going to jail. One of his most famed remarks, not made in my presence, is, "I never did such work as this in my life making out all these cards - but I'm doing it because [[Forie?]] wants it done and the funny thing about the little devil is - he makes me like it!"
Sylvia pulled another boner today; I dictated a letter and asked her to send a copy of it to "Andy Campbell" - then gave her a letter with Andy's name and address on it - C.A. Campbell etc. When the letter, over Stevenson's signature, came back, she had the copy marked "Andy Campbell." I didn't tell her - I just erased the "Andy" and put in "C.A." All in all however, Sylvia is a very satisfactory secretary as they go down here.
Helped Ed, Lou Malcolm and Pres Miller work on the material flow study until 7 PM and then Ed, Joe Rowbottom and I had dinner at Fan & Bill's, a really excellent place to eat. Joe refused to work overtime because he objects strongly to "wild hairs beginning to grow about 5 o'clock."
